Blog 4

1. We are getting the ball rolling on our documentary...finally. We've landed on a topic and have started to contact the people that we need. We're planning to go downtown and use Brits pub as kind of a hub of soccer fandom. We're hoping to find some great soccer fan communities in the twin cities and document them. So yeah, our documentary has begun and we hope that it picks up some steam in the next couple weeks.

2.this weeks Reading was the most boring of the 4 that we've read so far. I feel like with all the speakers giving us tips over and over, I'm just hearing the same things in the readings. This weeks Reading was obvious and repetitive, just read the title! I feel like it will be difficult to research until we've found some interviews because we'll have to research what our subjects are talking about. Hopefully next weeks Reading will better...

How real does it feel?

1.
The documentary process is underway! Our group has named our topic but we're still looking for a catchy tag and title. Our topic is going to focus on the soccer fan in America and the growing popularity of the sport in America. We feel that it will fun and enjoyable, as well as informative and cool. We've just made an outline of sorts for the work that we have to do and the deadlines that we must meet. As a group we are struggling with our pitch a bit. Like I said, we're not really sure what we want our tag to be but we hope that our topic is accepted because we are very passionate about soccer and wewant the American fans story to be told.
2.
The reading this week was again very informative and adressed the problems that I'm afraid my group will face. A.O. Scott talks about documentaries being difficult to understand and very confusing. I'm afraid that our audience will not like our topic. We are very passionate about soccer and our fandom but it will be difficult to illustrate that passion through our piece. I feel that if we can do this well, we can have a very affective, entertaining and fun documentary.

Directing the documentary

The documentary project has arrived and I am very excited to get started filming, interviewing and editing. We've got a good group and I feel like our group as a whole is clear on which direction that we want to take our documentary. I don't think that wewill face many problems in the direction of the piece as Rabiger suggests. We still have to decide on our documentary topic but we've got a couple of good ideas so it should be a fun project and we're all excited to learn more about making a documentary.

Rabiger's "directing the documentary" was a good prequel to our documentary process. It helped me to learn and realize that there are many different routes that one can take while making a documentary, and also if there are more people involved in the process it can create alot of hostility and conflict in the directorial process. Radiger seems tobknow what he talking about but I feel like some of the problems that we face a amateur directors and documentarions won't be as sever as those that rabiger faces. He does however paint a very detailed picture of the documentary process and I'm eager to start making my film with his writings in mind.
